About me
Markus Virta is the co-founder and Managing Partner of Cascadia Renewables, a Pacific Northwest technical consultancy working at the intersection of clean-energy policy, project development, and real-world deployment. For more than 15 years, Markus has worked across the solar industry, from installation and system design to policy advocacy and large-scale project development.
At Cascadia Renewables, Markus leads feasibility, planning, and development work for community-scale solar, battery energy storage, and microgrid projects across the United States. His work focuses on distribution system utilization, energy components of emergency management, community resilience hubs, and community-led technical assistance that helps communities translate energy resilience goals into portfolios of constructable and financeable projects.
Markus served on the board of the Washington Solar Energy Industries Association (WASEIA) from 2017 to 2023, including three years as President. He remains active in regional policy development, contributing to emerging microgrid frameworks in Oregon (AR 681) and Washington and helping shape enabling policies for battery storage, grid resilience, and distributed energy across the Pacific Northwest.
